Setting Up Your Signature Process And Why It’s So Important
I talk a lot about “the key” to a successful online business. But the truth is, there is no one key. There are many keys to the treasure box of success.
Keys like:
Today I’m giving you the key to another success secret:
Your Signature Process.
This is key to getting your business to work for you.
And who doesn’t want that key?!
What is a signature process?
Simply put, it’s a fancy way of saying: the process you outlined for a particular service. If your business offers multiple services, you want each offer to have its own signature process — sort of like a blueprint for each service.
And as your business evolves, so will your signature processes.
How does a signature process help your soulful business?
Boundaries
The hottest word of the 21st century. Boundaries aren’t exclusive to your personal relationships. Setting boundaries in your business will keep you sane and in charge.
With a signature process, you get to tell people:
“This is how I work.”
And that’s the beginning of making your business work for you.
Time Management
Speaking of making your business work for you, this is about working smart, not hard.
Setting up a signature process is an initial investment of your time, but like any worthwhile investment, it will pay off in the long run when your tasks are running themselves with your signature process.
Be Scalable and Make More Money
People don’t necessarily pay for the service. They pay for the result. They don’t care if it takes you 10 mins or 10 hours. They care that they get what they pay for.
Setting up a signature process as a package will ensure more money in your pocket for less work.
Clarity
A signature process provides clarity not only for you, but for your clients as well. And there’s nothing more that dream clients love than CLARITY!
Confidence
You know what else dream clients love — you, being the confident online business owner that you are with your solid signature process, clarity and boundaries. My goodness are boundaries sexy!
Freedom and Flexibility
Setting up a signature process allows you to manage your time better which makes you more efficient which gives you the ultimate gift of working for yourself:
The freedom and flexibility to work when you want from wherever you want.
You Look Like the Authority You Are
When you say “this is how my service works”, you are in charge and your client can trust you.
Plus, it takes the burden off of them. Believe it or not, most clients are busy and do not want to tell you how to do every single little thing. They want you to tell them — to make their lives easier. And that’s exactly what you’re doing with your signature process.
What you don’t need
A fancy offer
Any little service can be a signature process. The smallest tasks like:
Inbox management
Pinterest management
Launch management
Do not spend hours curating this fancy offer when all your client really needs is help with their tedious yet important tasks. Wow them with your signature process for even the simplest tasks!
15 years of experience
You don’t need it. Start by creating a signature process for a task you complete in your day to day business. You can always go back and refine this. But chances are if you need it and use it, your client will too.
Setting up a signature process
When setting up your offers, why not set up your signature processes while you’re at it?
These are my recommendations:
Time block everything
From marketing to client work to admin, time block everything and stick to those time blocks as much as possible. This creates so much clarity and efficiency — two words we love.
Plus, it gives you the mental space for the tasks that require more brain power and creativity. As opposed to wasting that precious brain power on figuring out the day to day processes that can be easily outlined in a signature process.
Dedicate one CEO day
Once a week dedicate a day, or at the very least an afternoon, to YOUR business. So often we get caught up in servicing our clients, that our business gets put on the back burner.
But your business needs love to grow. Make sure you’re giving it the time and signature process it needs to do just that.
Use a project management tool for your business from the start
As a service provider, you will juggle so many things at once. A PM tool will keep you organized so you can close your computer at the end of the day and not worry about all of the things pending — that’s what the PM tool is for. It does all the worrying for you!
Have and enforce boundaries with your clients
Trust me when I say the right clients will respect your boundaries. And that’s all we have time for — the right clients.
Don’t be afraid to put the health of yourself and your business first, because at the end of the day boundaries are necessary for providing the absolute best service for your clients. And they know this.
Set up your business so it works for you
Don’t feel like you have to copy what others are doing. Just because it works for them doesn’t mean it will work for you. It has to be authentic and it has to flow. It may take some time and some adjusting, but I urge you to stay true to your style and your ways.
Have fun!
And at the end of the day, have fun! Because if you’re not doing work that lights you up in a way that lights you up, what’s the point?
