Hello Soulpreneurs! Welcome back to the Soulpreneur Scaling Stories Podcast. Today I want to get really real and vulnerable with you about some big mistakes I made when I was pivoting my own business. I learned these lessons the hard way, but I’m sharing them today in hopes that it helps you avoid the same pitfalls if you’re looking to pivot your business to a new offering or go in a new direction.

[00:01:41] My 3 Biggest Pivot Mistakes: right, so let’s get into it. So a while back, I was finally feeling ready to embody something bigger in my business and follow what my intuition had been guiding me towards for a while. I was ready to go from being an online business manager focused on one on one clients to pivoting into being a business coach.

But my pivot was far from perfect. In fact, I made some really big mistakes that caused a lot of struggle and anguish on my end. So today, I want to share my top three pivot mistakes so you can learn from what I did and not do them yourself.

All right, let’s get into it. So mistake number one was that I waited way too long and let myself get totally incapacitated from being burnt out before I took action on this pivot. To give you an idea, I was working a lot of hours in the day and I was making a lot of money. I was doing really well over 10k months.

But it got to a point where I literally physically mentally could not do it anymore. I had the idea to pivot for a while But I didn’t actually do it until I really really couldn’t like function anymore in my old business model But if I had acted sooner when I heard these first whispers of my intuition telling me to do something bigger Before I got to the stage of totally being incapacitated from my own burnout, I really could have saved myself so much struggle.

It took a long time to recover from that burnout. It took a long time for me to pivot. And this was all due to the fact that I waited too long. I didn’t listen to my intuition and I just kept going, going, going. Until I couldn’t anymore. So the lesson for you is not to wait until you are at a breaking point in your business to take action like I did.

And mistake number two is that I didn’t leverage my existing offers enough. To create space for the pivot. So I’ll explain what that means. So like I was saying before, I was working a gazillion hours a day in my old business model. So when you’re working so much with the one on one clients as we tend to do when this is the business model, how could I have the space?

How could somebody have the mental space? How can somebody have the physical, like literal time to work on the new project, right? Like you don’t have the time. How can you create? You need to have space to be in your feminine. You need to have space to be in that creativity mode in order to dream this up, in order to make the plan, in order to start taking the steps forward.

Right? When you’re working so, so much, you literally do not have the space. It is not possible for me at that time. It was almost impossible for me to bring this dream to life. So what would have been the fix and what I recommend you to learn from this? It was, it would have been, or should have been to create more space in my own business by restructuring my existing offers.

That would have made the transition so much smoother. It would have been so much smoother because I would have had the space to do it. Mental, physical, emotional, all of the above. So let me give you some examples of what restructuring your offers mean. So it could mean something like, make turning your offers from being hourly based to being project based.

And charging. More. Charging a fair amount for this, but create a system around it so you can work faster. Create automations. Do what you can in the back end so you can get the same work done in a much quicker time and have it not be hourly based. Another example is actually changing up your existing offers.

So you could change up, let’s say you’re doing something um, I’ll give you an example. I have, I know somebody who was doing lead generation and you have to be, right, like in, like the whole offer is surrounded by time, like there’s no way around that. So she actually went back to doing something she used to do, which was social media management.

Why? Because she was able to do it quicker. She was able to structure her time better. She was able to take days off to focus on her own business, on this new business, and then other days focus on the social media management. So those are a couple of examples of what you can do to restructure your business to give you more time and not lose income.

And finally, mistake number three. I had no plan. I had no plan whatsoever for this pivot. All I knew is that I wanted to start coaching. Now, if you’ve been listening to this, if you know me at all, I am an online business manager, certified online business manager. I am a planner. I am a ClickUp enthusiast.

I will put everything in a task with color coded sticky notes. Like, we have everything in order around here, right? So, I’m a woman with a plan. But I was so burnt out at this time that I really just dove in head first, right? I dove in head first, except my diving in head first really looked like me diving in while wearing a blindfold with one hand tied behind my back because I was not, we were not functioning in this time.

So without this clarity and without a plan, the pivot felt so haphazard and chaotic. It just took a long time, there was no direction, there was like, nothing was going on, right? So the lesson here to take from this is to create a strategic plan for your pivot. For this new offer, what are the steps you’re going to take?

Make sure you have the time to get clear. Make sure you make a plan, and make sure that your steps are purposeful.

So my friends, those were my three biggest mistakes when I pivoted, but I have a silver lining. Don’t worry, because going through all of that, going through that challenging pivot, It’s what allowed me to understand exactly how to help others transition their businesses smoothly and with purpose. And it was so funny because this new year I was doing my journaling and these lovely exercises and so much came up.

And one thing that came up in my reflections and in my journaling was that I realized that I went through this for a reason. There was a bigger purpose for my journey being so bumpy and, and well, what it was, you heard. So there was a reason for that. I realized that I could take these Hard won lessons and share them to support others who are ready to pivot into alignment with their true soul’s calling.

And that made me so excited. So that’s why I’m super excited to invite you to my free 60 minute masterclass that is all about pivoting with purpose. So if you know me, you know that we go deep.
