Entrepreneur Health Insurance Alternatives
Health insurance in the U.S. is a difficult topic, even when you work for a company. It’s even harder to navigate when you’re self-employed.
I found an amazing alternative that I’m excited to share with you! There are 2 separate pieces that, when combined, give you better coverage than traditional health insurance at a better price:
- Direct Primary Care. Do a google search for a doctor in your area that is a direct primary care physician (I have 2 near me!). They generally do not take insurance, charge a monthly flat fee, which covers just about everything you need from your family doctor, and they operate at a higher level of service as compared to a traditional PCP. For instance, they often use telemedicine and are available at the drop of a hat for their patients.
- Cost-sharing Medical Program. Use this in conjuction with your direct primary care provider. There are a few of these to choose from. The one I use is called Sedera and it covers things like hospital stays, surgeries, emergencies, etc. It is also a monthly plan and acts like catastrophic health insurance.
I want to keep this short, but I’m happy to answer any questions you have. Email me if you want to know more about what I’ve found on this topic!

Hello Andrea! I saw your post on FB and I am interested in knowing more about this subject. I am a Real Estate Agent and I don’t have insurance currently. Thanks!
Hi Shannon! The best way to find a primary care doctor is to google “direct primary care provider” and your city/state. And then just click on the link for sedaris that I included here and they’ll help you. Good luck!
